Retirement Visa

The Thai Retirement Visa, officially Non-Immigrant O-A (Long Stay) Visa or Non-Immigrant O-X (Long Stay) Visa, allows foreign retirees to stay in Thailand for an extended period. There are two main types:

Non-Immigrant O-A Visa (1-year renewable).
Non-Immigrant O-X Visa (10-year visa, available for specific nationalities).

Who can apply?

The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • be 50 years of age or older

  • no criminal record in Thailand or home country

  • meet financial requirements

  • O-A Visa:

    • Bank deposit of THB 800,000

    • Monthly income/pension of THB 65,000

    • Combination of savings and income totalling THB 800,000

    • Thai health insurance

  • O-X Visa

    • Bank deposit of THB 3,000,000

    • Annual income of at least 1.2 THB

    • Thai health insurance

FAQ

  • Applicants must demonstrate financial stability through one of the following means:

    Bank Deposit: Maintaining a security deposit of at least 800,000 Thai Baht in a Thai bank account for a specified period before the application.

    Monthly Income: Providing proof of a monthly income (such as a pension) of not less than 65,000 Thai Baht.

    Combination Method: A combination of a deposit account and annual income totaling not less than 800,000 Thai Baht.

    These financial criteria ensure that retirees can support themselves during their stay in Thailand.  

  • Essential documents include:

    • A passport with a validity of not less than 6 months.

    • A completed and signed visa application form.

    • Recent passport-sized photographs of the applicant.

    • Evidence of meeting financial requirements, such as bank statements or income certificates.

    • A medical certificate confirming the absence of prohibited diseases as specified by Thai authorities.

    • A police clearance certificate from the applicant’s home country, verifying no criminal record.

    These documents establish the applicant’s eligibility and intent for long-term stay in Thailand.  

  • Unfortunately this is not possible on this visa type. Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited under the provisions of The Thai Retirement Visa. This visa is intended solely for retirees who wish to reside in Thailand without engaging in any form of work or business activities.
